Earlier this week The Washington Post featured an article titled “Ranch Dressing Is What’s Wrong with America.” The post was written in response to a trend piece from New York Magazine, which identified ranch dressing as having a resurgence at hip restaurants. The writer of the Post article, Ben Adler, suggests chefs “should do the work of finding interesting flavors instead of just asking what they serve at Buffalo Wild Wings and cooking a twee version of it.” He also refers to the condiment as “milk that’s halfway rotten.” Sure, dude.
Listen, it’s totally fine if you don’t like ranch dressing. Nobody is going to force you to eat ranch dressing — I promise! But maybe you don’t have to hate on other people’s food preferences? Maybe it’s OK if someone likes something that you don’t? Maybe calling ranch dressing “what’s wrong with America” is actually kind of alarmist and lazy? I’m just saying.
And for the rest of us who find delight in this classic dip and ingredient, I have a treat for you. I’ve rounded up the most inspiring, most Ranch-y-licious recipes that I could find on the internet so you can bask in this iconic dressing. Go forth and live your life with pride.
