Should Tomatoes Be Refrigerated?

Tomatoes are one of the most consumed plant foods worldwide. In fact, there are about 130 million tons produced each year. It’s just that hard to not put them in your grocery list! There are hundreds of tomato varieties, and they can be used for salad, sandwich, pasta, soup and more.

But have you ever wondered why sometimes they taste weird – probably tasteless? Science confirms there’s a reason behind that.

Should tomatoes be refrigerated? Absolutely not. The tomatoes are sensitive to cold, so they will permanently lose the taste. So unless you want to eat your salad with tasteless tomatoes, keep them on the counter because they have a good shelf life.

Continue to eat your tomatoes every day as they are known to boost heart health by regulating your blood pressure and reducing your risk of stroke and heart diseases. Tomatoes will also lower your risk of diabetes and cancers, particularly prostate and colorectal cancer.
